About Me . Behind my work & Current tools

Virginia Demarco

I am a Freelance UI Designer & illustrator with 7 years of experience.

In early 2006 I started working as a graphic designer, but in 2010 I decided to take courses on Design and Code, since UI was more appealing to me.
I spent the next 2 years taking freelance part time jobs related to UI Design while working on an office job as a designer.

In 2012 I finally quit my office job and decided to become a full time freelancer for my current clients and spent every free minute working, learning and improving.
Part of my added value is to create custom assets, from small system icons to full scale illustrations that gives personal approach to their projects.

I’ve worked for several agencies as an external resource sometimes working close with their developers, most of the clients I have worked with are located in Australia, Canada and USA.

Digital Media

All of the vector illustrations are made with my Cintiq 13HD.
I prefer to use Adobe CC suite and Axure for complex prototypes or wireframes.

Here is a small list of my current tools for my digital work:

  • MacBook Air
  • Cintiq 13HD
  • Adobe CC
  • Axure, pen & paper

Traditional Media

Lately I started including traditional media illustrations (mainly watercolor).
I use a limited custom palette of 12 tube colors at the moment, which I plan to expand soon, they are the same I have on my travel tin palette.
When needed for details I like to use white watercolor and silver or gold acrilic paint.
I try to experiment with new methods and materials, I will post more about it on my blog.

Here is a small list of my current tools for my traditional work.

  • Watercolors: Royal Talens
  • Color Pencils: Caran D'ache Prismalo Aquarelle
  • Ink: Faber Castell Eco Pigment, white Pentel marker.
  • Paper: Canson Montval
  • Brushes: Pinctore, Synthetic Fiber . 309, 482-2, 485
